EastEnders star David Essex has promised that there are big storylines on the way for his character Eddie Moon before he makes his departure from the soap.
As revealed when the actor first took on the role, Eddie will be leaving screens in October as Essex is going on tour with the play All the Fun of the Fair. Whether the antiques dealer will be back in Walford at a later date is currently unclear.
Speaking of his time at EastEnders, Essex told This Morning today: "It's been wonderful - really, really challenging, intimidating and it does take over your life, but I've been blessed because I've worked with wonderful actors - my boys Tony Discipline, Matt Lapinskas and Steve John Shepherd, Zöe Lucker and Lindsey Coulson, and of course Shane and Jessie.
"That was my circle that I worked with, and the level of performance from those actors and the pressure we're at, it's just incredible. All the way down from the top to the bottom, there's this kind of galvanised quality of a family under pressure! And it works - I really enjoy it."
Discussing Eddie's future, he continued: "All I can tell you is that Eddie's storylines from now until October are phenomenal. They're so powerful."
Essex said that he has embraced the air of mystery surrounding Eddie, whose past is currently being explored on screen as his son Michael does some detective work.
"I've tried to play him slightly ambiguous, with a certain darkness, so you don't quite know what he's like," he explained. "I've really enjoyed it, it was a challenge and I'm so pleased it went so well."
Meanwhile, asked whether he will return to EastEnders, Essex replied: "It's tricky. I'd like to go back, but it's time, really. And I do feel blessed that I seem to be able to work in so many different mediums."

IM GAY: Ben Comes Out.
The lad, played by Joshua Pascoe, will come out and shock his hardnut family months after kissing pal Duncan.
Dad Phil, played by Steve McFadden, will be distraught at the news later this year.
He has always been disappointed with Ben — who used to be played by Charlie Jones — for his lack of masculinity after he developed a love of music and dancing.
Ben will be Albert Square's third gay character after Syed Masood (Marc Elliot) and Christian Clarke (John Partridge).
Ironically, his romance will develop after Phil encourages him to toughen up by going boxing with Duncan.
But the lads end up being more than just sparring partners when they share a kiss.
When shopkeeper Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) sees them, Ben is worried his secret will come out.
But when the lad tries to intimidate Patrick into keep quiet, he calls the cops — which angers Phil and gets a number of the Walford residents involved.
A BBC spokeswoman confirmed Ben's kissing scene was filmed yesterday.
Enders Boss Kirkwood This week also commented saying that he had big plans for the Mitchells as well as Patrick would have more screen time later in the year.

SPOILER ALERT: Ian Caught OUT!
Ian Beale sinks to an all time low in EastEnders, as he tries to pick up a prostitute with a wad of ten pound notes.
Unfortunately for Beale, played by actor Adam Woodyatt, his female friend turns out to be a policewoman.
The seedy plotline follows unlucky-in-love Beale as he take his car out kerb crawling in broad daylight to go cruising for a girl.
As he arrives to a pick-up spot dotted with potential clients, he slows his vehicle down and peers out the window until he finds the right match.
Handing Money OVER.... |
When he starts talking to a leggy brunette, he thinks he has scored - but as soon as they exchange cash he is busted by the law enforcer and she flashes her ID leaving Beale red-faced.
Beale's history of women has hardly been a successful one, having four failed marriages behind him.
His first to Cindy Williams, played by Michelle Collins, lasted the longest at a vaguely impressive eight years.
But his latest to Jane Collins, portrayed by Laurie Brett, lasted a dismal fours years with both of them being unfaithful.
This is also not Beale's first venture into hiring women in exchange for money.
After he witnessed Jane kissing another man, he flew into a rage and hired an escort to make her jealous, claiming the woman was a long-term friend from his school days.
Woodyatt, 43, is the longest-serving character of the BBC1 soap and the only remaining original role to have appeared continuously since the first episode aired back in February 1985.
